Anthony Johnson vs. Glover Teixeira Rescheduled for UFC 202

When news broke two weeks ago that Anthony “Rumble” Johnson had been injured and was forced out of his bout with Glover Teixeira, many thought the fight would never happen. Rather than find a replacement for Teixeira, the UFC removed the fighter from the July 23rd card altogether and now the highly anticipated bout has been rescheduled.

The bout between Johnson and Teixeira will take place at UFC 202 on August 20th. The event will be held at the T-Mobile arena in Las Vegas and will be headlined by a rematch between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz.

Johnson (21-5) is coming off consecutive knockout wins over Jimi Manuwa and Ryan Bader. Prior to that he lost to Daniel Cormier in a bout for the vacant light heavyweight championshiop. Cormier would submit Johnson in the third round but with his back-to-back knockout victories, Johnson is right back in the race for another crack at the title.

For Teixeira (25-4) the road back to a title shot has been a little longer. He lost his championship bout to Jon Jones back in 2014 and after dropping his next bout to Phil Davis it looked like the 36-year old Brazilian best days were behind him. Since his loss to Davis, Teixeira has rattled off three consecutive wins all of which have come by way of submission or knockout. A win over Johnson will also put him in prime position for a title shot.
