A pretty crucial lightweight bout between former champion Benson Henderson and Michael Johnson is being targeted for the Ultimate Fighter 21 Finale on July 12th. The UFC is looking to have the event take place in Florida but as of this writing no venue has been confirmed.
It was not that long ago, last week in fact, that Henderson offered up his services to the UFC as a replacement for the UFC 186 co-main event after Rampage Jackson was pulled due to a legal battle with Bellator MMA.
Henderson has been very active on social media as well as inside the octagon after losing a decision to Donald Cerrone. Henderson took a bout with Brando Thatch in the welterweight division on just two week’s notice and earned a submission victory.
Johnson has been very quietly climbing the ranks of the lightweight division. He is currently ranked number six and is rarely talked about in title conversations. That is just a testament to the depth of the division. A fight with Henderson is one that Johnson had been asking for and now he has a chance to earn the biggest win of his career.
TUF 21 is the newest edition of the long running series and will feature American Top Team versus the Blackzilians training camp. It should be noted that Johnson is a member of the Blackzilians.
