Former lightweight title challenger Gray “The Bully” Maynard has confirmed that he is moving down to the featherweight division. Maynard announced the move via his Twitter account over the weekend.
Following back to back bouts against Frankie Edgar in 2011, which were considered by many to be two of the best lightweight fights in history, Maynard has gone only 1-4 in his last five bouts. He is currently on a four fight losing streak and has not won a fight since a lackluster win over Clay Guida in 2012. During his four fight skid, Maynard has been knocked out three times. His most recent loss was via a unanimous decision to Alexander Yakovlev back in April. Despite his recent struggles Maynard still has a career record of 11-5.
Maynard has not commented on when he will make his featherweight debut or whom he would like to face. He is following suit with other notable lightweights who have made the drop to featherweight including: Frankie Edgar, Glay Guida, and most recently Diego Sanchez.
