Report: Anderson Silva vs. Vitor Belfort Rematch Set

A rematch between Anderson Silva and Vitor Belfort is reportedly set to take place at UFC 197 in March of 2016. According to reports the event is scheduled to be held at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. News of the rematch being confirmed was first reported by the Brazilian publication Globo. The UFC has yet to officially confirm the bout.

Rumors about a potential rematch between the two Brazilian fighters were started when UFC president Dana White was a guest on Joe Rogan’s podcast “The Joe Rogan Experience“. When Rogan brought up the idea of the two men facing off again White responded by saying “We’re working on it”.

The two men originally faced back in 2011 at UFC 126. The bout ended with Silva landing a spectacular front kick in the first round. The kick has since been part of many knockout highlight reels.

Silva is currently serving a year suspension for failing multiple drug tests prior to and following his UFC 183 bout against Nick Diaz back in January. The former middleweight champion is going through what is possibility the roughest patch in his career. Following back-to-back loses to Chris Weidman and suffering a devastating leg injury the 40-year old is looking to get one more solid run before he retires.

Belfort is coming off a first round knockout of Dan Henderson but after suffering two title loses in the past three years he has a long climb back to the top of the contender’s list.
