The accolades just keep on coming for Ronda Rousey. The UFC bantamweight champion is undefeated, has appeared on commercials and has starred in some of the most famous film franchises in history. Now she can be officially called the “Worlds Most Dominant Athlete”. The title was bestowed upon her by Sports Illustrated in an issue that will be released on Wednesday.
Rousey entered the UFC in 2013 and her time has been filled with a bunch of firsts. Her debut bout in the UFC was the first time a women’s bout had ever headlined a pay-per-view. Since that night in February Rousey has not looked back. Her career has skyrocketed to break the pop culture realm and bring the sport of mixed martial arts to the forefront. This latest accomplishment only heightens her profile and makes her star shine brighter and puts the spotlight on the UFC.
The last and only time the UFC or MMA dawned the cover of the prestige sports magazine was back in 2007 when former lightweight competitor Roger Huerta appeared on the front image after his grueling battle with Leonard Garcia. However this was not the first time Rousey has been featured in Sports Illustrated. Back in February she took part in the magazine’s annual Swimsuit Issue.
The magazine issue will coincide with the release of Rousey’s biography entitled “My Fight/Your Fight”. She will also be seen in August as she looks to defend her bantamweight championship against Bethe Correia at UFC 190 in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.
