The UFC has suspended Jon Jones and has stripped him of his light heavyweight championship. UFC president Dana White made the announcement on Fox Sports Live on Tuesday night. Reports had surfaced early Tuesday that the UFC would be meeting with Jones in Albuquerque after his court appearance for a felony hit-and-run case.
Jones was scheduled to defend his light heavyweight championship against Anthony “Rumble” Johnson at UFC 187 on May 23rd in Las Vegas. Dana White confirmed that Johnson will now face Daniel Cormier at the event and the bout will crown a new light heavyweight champion.
Jones turned himself into police custody for allegedly fleeing the scene of an accident in which a person suffered personal injury. Jones is suspected of running a red light which caused a three car accident in which a pregnant woman suffered a broken arm. According to eyewitnesses Jones was seen fleeing the accident on foot.
