Douglas Lima will finally get the chance to defend his welterweight title almost a year after he first won it. Lima is set to go up against Andrey Koreshkov at Bellator 140 on July 17th.
Lima won the welterweight championship, which was left vacant after Ben Askren left the promotion, by TKO over Rick Hawn back in April of last year. Lima debuted for the company back in 2011 and has compiled an 8-1 record with his only loss being to Askren. He was scheduled to defend his title in Feburay of this year against Paul Daley but was forced off the card due to a knee injury. Since his last loss, Lima has won five consecutive bouts all by either KO or TKO.
Andrey Koreshkov is yet another young Russian fighter on the Bellator roster. He is currently riding a four fight win streak with his last loss coming at the hands of none other than Ben Askren. Askren is the only blemish on Andrey’s record. He has a total of 10 knockout wins and was last seen earning a decision victory over Adam McDonough in July of 2014.
“Douglas Lima is an incredible champion who is in for one of the toughest fights of his life against Koreshkov,” Bellator president Scott Coker stated in a press release.
Bellator 140 is expected to take place on July 17th at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. and air live on Spike TV.
