Third Title Fight Added to UFC 217

The UFC is treating every fight card held at Madison Square Garden like a cannot miss event. It was announced today that a third title fight as been added to the already stacked line up. Strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk will defend her championship against Rose Namajunas. The bout between the two has long been rumored but today the UFC made it official with a post on their Twitter account:

UFC 215 already has a middleweight championship bout between Michael Bisping and the returning George St. Pierre plus a grudge match for the bantamweight title between Cody Garbrandt and TJ Dillashaw.

Jedrzejczyk (14-0) has been an unstoppable force since winning the strawweight title from Carla Esparza back in 2015. Since then she as become one of the most consistent and dominate champions in UFC history. She last fought in May of this year when she defeated Jessica Andrade in a one-sided bout.

Namajunas (6-3) may be short on overall MMA experience but she is long on talent and potential. She was a standout star during her season of the “Ultimate Fighter” that saw the crowning of the inaugural strawweight champion. Namajunas made it all the way to the finale before losing to Carla Esparza. She will now get another chance at becoming the strawweight champion but faces a much tougher test in Jedrzejczyk. “Thug” is coming off a high-profile win over Michelle Waterson in which she defeated the “Karate Hottie” with a rear naked choke in the second round.

UFC 217 will take place on November 4th and can be seen live on pay-per-view.
