On Saturday night in the O2 Arena in London, England MMA veteran Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos suffered a knockout loss to Michael “Venom” Page. It was a flying knee that won the bout for Page but little did the audience in the arena and the audience watching at home know, the injury was far worse than anyone could have imagined.
Santos’ ex-wife, Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino took to her Instagram account to give fans an update on her ex-husband and urged them to help him out:
Santos suffered a fractured skull as a result of the knee from Page and after such traumatic head trauma the brain will begin to swell. The photo of Santos made its way around the internet with several members of the MMA community re-posting and commenting on it. A Go-Fund-Me page was set up to help with the medical bills for Santos but that may no longer be needed as according to MMA Junkie, Bellator president Scott Coker has stated that the company will pay for all medical expenses and even award Santos a win bonus.
“Bellator representatives have been present with him at the hospital throughout this process, and we are taking care of any medical bills that he incurs. In addition, we are going to go ahead and pay ‘Cyborg’ his win bonus to help him find a little extra comfort throughout his recovery process, which we hope is a speedy one.” stated Coker.
