Michael Bisping Steps Up to Face Luke Rockhold at UFC 199

It took the UFC less than 24 hours to find  a replacement to face Luke Rockhold at UFC 199. Michael “The Count” Bisping will take on Rockhold for the middleweight championship. It will be Bisping’s first crack at UFC gold. Rockhold’s original opponent Chris Weidman was pulled for the event yesterday after suffering a neck injury.

Bisping (28-7) has been in the UFC since 2006 and been one of the most consistent fighters in the organization’s history. He has been a polarizing figure with fans as he is either loved or extremely hated. There is no in between. Yet after all these year the one thing that has always eluded Bisping has been a championship, even the chance to fight for a title has escaped his fingertips. On several occasion Bisping has fought his way to almost being the number one contender but always seemed to never get over the final hurdle.

Now he will get his shot at a UFC championship. Does it help that is taking the fight on short notice? Or the fact that he has already loss to Rockhold once before? Maybe not but at the age of 37, Bisping’s window of opportunity is closing and this may be his one and only chance at becoming a world champion.

UFC 199 will take place on June 4 at the Forum in Los Angeles, California and will air live on pay-per-view.
