Daniel Cormier vs. Jon Jones Confirmed for UFC 200

Following his win over Ovince St. Preux at UFC 197, it has been announced that Jon Jones will face off against bitter rival Daniel Cormier in the main event for the upcoming UFC 200 card. The bout will hope to fill the void left behind by Conor McGregor.

Jones successfully returned to action at UFC 197 by defeating St. Preux via a unanimous decision. It was Jones’ first bout back since being suspended for outside legal issues. Jones was originally scheduled to face current light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier but an injury forced the champion out of the bout. The UFC will now hope to bring some much need hype to the 200 event after the media mess with Conor McGregor.

UFC 200 was supposed to be headlined by rematch between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz but after McGregor refused to fulfill his media obligations the UFC pulled him from the event. Now the company is hoping that the bitter rivalry between Jones and Cormier will reignite interest in the card.

After Jones was stripped of the light heavyweight championship, Cormier defeated Anthony Johnson to lay claim to the belt. Cormier would go on to defend the title to Alexander Gustafsson in October of last year in a hard-fought battle.

UFC 200 will take place on July 9th at the  T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
