After over a year lay-off former title challenger Cat Zingano will be returning to action. It was announced today that she will be facing former “Ultimate Fighter” winner Julinanna Pena at UFC 200. It will be Zingano’s first bout since her loss to Ronda Rousey back in February 2015.
The bout between the two can potentially be set up as a number one contender bout as champion Miesha Tate will be facing Amanda Nunes on the same card.
Zingano (9-1) already owns a win over Tate and Nunes so a victory at UFC 200 could put her back at the top of the list. Zingano had been teasing a big fight announcement that had many speculating she would either face Cris Cyborg or even fight Tate for the bantamweight title.
Pena (7-2) has had some legal issues to deal with but being the first ever female to win the “Ultimate Fighter” and being undefeated in the UFC has her on the short list of contenders as well.
UFC 200 will take place on July 9th from the brand new T-Mobile arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The card will feature two title bouts as Miesha Tate defends her bantamweight championship against Amanda Nunes and Jose Aldo will go up against Frankie Edgar for the interim featherweight title. The night will be headlined by a rematch between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz.
