Thought it may sound like a cruel April fool’s joke, it is not one. It was announced today that UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier has suffered an injury and will not be able to fight bitter rival Jon Jones at UFC 197 on April 23.
According to multiple reports Cormier had suffered some sort of leg injury and was seen limping at a wrestling tournament a couple of weeks ago. The UFC has yet to officially comment on the status of Cormier.
This news is fresh off the heels of Jones getting arrested for violating his probation after being pulled over by a police officer for allegedly drag racing.
The injury bug is nothing new to the UFC and its fans as it now seems that having a fight actually make it from the announcement to the actually event is a rarity these days.
No word as of this writing as to what the UFC has planned for the main event or if a replacement will be found to face Jon Jones.
