A pair of hard hitting bouts have been added to the UFC 200 card. The company announced today that former welterweight champion Johny Hendricks will square off against former TUF winner Kelvin Gaselum. Also added is a lightweight bout between fan favorites Diego Sanchez and Joe Lauzon.
Former champion Johny Hendricks has yet another tough task placed in front of him. Hendricks (17-4) has alternated wins and losses for the past six fights. He is coming off a knockout loss to Stephen Thompson. In those six fights he has faced Thompson, Matt Brown, Carlos Condit, Georges St. Pierre, and Robbie Lawler twice. Now he faces Gastelum, who is going through a rough patch of his own but many still consider the 24-year old a serious threat down the road.
Gastelum (11-2) has been on the bad side of UFC president Dana White for his issues with weight cutting. He is onl 1-2 in his last three bouts and dropped a surprising loss to late replacement Neil Magny in his last bout.
Known for getting into bloody brawls fan favorites Diego Sanchez and Joe Lauzon are pitted up against each other in hopes of delivering a “Fight of the Night” performance. Sanchez (26-8) has been jumping up and down between the featherweight and welterweight divisions but has always managed to put on a show for the fans. Lauzon (25-11) has remained a staple in the UFC’s lightweight division and has gone 3-2 in his last five bouts.
UFC 200 will be headlined by a grudge match between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz. The event will take place on July 9 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
