A heavyweight clash between Josh Barnett and Ben Rothwell has been added to the UFC’s upcoming Fox telecast. The fight announcement was made on Tuesday’s edition of Fox Sports Live.
The UFC on Fox card will be held on January 30 at Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
Rothwell (35-9) has been on the sideline since June but not by choice. He was scheduled to face Stipe Miocic in October but an injury to Miocic forced the fight to be cancelled. Rothwell has been calling out the UFC for not putting him in big time fights with named opponents. He now gets his wish as Barnett is a former heavyweight champion and is currently ranked sixth in division.
Barnett (34-7) is fresh off a decision win over Roy Nelson in the Fight Night Main event that took place in Japan. Since returning to the UFC in 2013, Barnett has gone 2-1 with his lone loss coming to Travis Browne.
The UFC on Fox card is expected to be headlined by a light heavyweight bout between Anthony Johnson and Ryan Bader.
