UFC lightweight standout Khabib Nurmagomedov has suffered yet another injury and will be forced out of his latest bout. The Russian fighter suffered a rib fracture during his training camp and will but not heal in time for his December 11 bout against Tony Ferguson. The rib fracture is the latest in a long list of injuries that have plagued the young fighter for over a year and a half now.
Nurmagomedov is coming off two severe knee injuries that has kept him out of action since April of 2014. At 27 years of age and with a 22-0 professional record, Nurmagomedov is widely considered one of the top lightweights in the world. He has also gained notoriety within the MMA community with his outspoken nature and his tendency to use social media to smack talk with other fighters.
According to reports the UFC will have Edson Barboza step in and face Ferguson but the air has already been let out as many expected the Nurmagomedov/Ferguson bout to have heavy title implications.
The Ultimate Fighter Season 22 finale will take place on December 11 live from the in Las Vegas, Nevada and will be headlined by a featherweight bout between former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar and former featherweight title challenger Chad Mendes.
