A heavyweight bout with title implications has been added to the UFC 195 event. Former champion Andrei Arlovski will take on Stipe Miocic. The fight announcement was made by the UFC on Wednesday.
Since returning to the UFC in June of 2014 Arlovski (25-10) has gone on to win all four of his bouts. His latest win came against Frank Mir at UFC 191. It was considered by many critics as a conservation win for Arlovski it did put him in prime position to challenge for the UFC heavyweight title.
Miocic (13-2) has been on the cusp of a title shot for over a year now but injuries have sidetracked his rise up the rankings. Just a few weeks ago he was scheduled to take on Ben Rothwell at the UFC Fight Night card in Dublin, Ireland but was forced to pull out of the bout with an undisclosed injury. The bout with Rothwell was cancelled and rather than reschedule the UFC decided to pit Miocic against Arlovski instead.
UFC 195 is scheduled to take place on January 2 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada and will be headlined by welterweight championship bout between Robbie Lawler and Carlos Condit.
