UFC Fight Night took place in the early morning hours on Saturday. It was the first time the world’s largest mixed martial arts organization held an event in the Philippines and it was safe to say the crowd left satisfied. The card had three featured bouts with former champions, and two of the sports most popular stars starring in the main event. Former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar earned a unanimous decisions victory over former WEC featherweight champion Urijah Faber.

Edgar was able to use his exceptional footwork to avoid any type of offense from Faber. The fight was close after two rounds but a big third round turned the tide for Edgar who seemed to find a rhythm that would lead to his victory. A majority of the fight found both men circling each other and moving in and out while trying to land on offense. It was Edgar who was able to land the most and defend any takedown attempts from Faber. Edgar is now in prime position to earn a title shot against the winner of the Jose Aldo and Conor McGregor bout.

The co-main event saw veteran fighter Gegard Mousasi put on a clinic in his dominating performance against Costas Philippou. Mousasi used a mixed of his stand up and used takedowns when necessary to grind out the unanimous decision victory.

The star of the show was Mark Munoz who had stated before the event that this would be his final bout of his career. The Filipino-American fighter had made it known that he wanted to be on this particular card and fight in front of the Filipino crowd. From his walkout entrance to the final bell Munoz had the entire crowd behind him. Munoz used his heavy hands and wrestling to pressure young English fighter Luke Barnatt in their bout. Munoz would win the bout on all the judges scorecards and went on to cut a classic post fight interview filled with gratitude, perspective, and ambition.
