Coming into the night’s main event Bellator middleweight champion Brandon Halsey knew that win or lose he would not walk away with the title. After arriving late to Thursday’s official weigh-ins and coming in three pounds over the weight limit, Halsey was notified by Bellator officials that he would be stripped of his title after Friday’s bout. If his opponent Kendall Grove were to come out victorious then he would become the new champion but his Halsey were to win he would be stripped of his title. Halsey ended up defeating Grove in the fourth round and now Bellator MMA is without a middleweight champion.
Halsey was dominant from the opening bell almost securing an arm triangle in the first round. Grove was able to escape but spent the remainder of the opening round eating hammer fists. The second round started off good for Grove who started using his jab but midway through Halsey put him on his back and ended the round throwing elbows and punches.
It was in the fourth round when Halsey rocked Grove with a right hand and secured a takedown. It was on the ground where Halsey did most of the damage. He continued to throw strikes and secured a full mount before the referee stopped the fight. Below are the full results from Friday night’s card.
