A rumored bout between Benson Henderson and Michael Johnson will no longer serve as the main event for the TUF 21 finale on July 12. The bout was never made official by the UFC so in reality the card never had a main event to begin with. Instead, a welterweight match up between Jake Ellenberger and Stephen Thompson will be the night’s main event. Reports are coming out that it was Henderson who was forced out of the fight for an undisclosed reason. That was not the only change to the card, it will now be moved from the proposed location of Florida to Las Vegas. The card will now take place at the MGM Grand.
The Florida location made sense because the 21st season of the Ultimate Fighter was filmed in there as it had two rival camps, American Top Team and the Blackzilians, competing against each other. Both camps are based out of the Sunshine State. The reason for the change was to make production easier for the UFC. The TUF Finale is scheduled for July 12 and on July 11 the UFC will be in Las Vegas for UFC 189: Aldo vs. McGregor. To pack up and move across the country to Florida in 24 hours just did not make sense so now the UFC will have a double header of sorts in Vegas for that weekend. Also announced for the TUF Finale is a welterweight bout between Jorge Masvidal and Cezar Ferreira.
