The fans in Berlin, Germany have lost the light heavyweight bout between Alexander Gustafsson and Glover Teixeira but they have gained a championship bout in its place. The UFC has announced that straw-weight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk will defend her title against Jessica Penne in the nights new main event.
Jedrzejczyk (9-0) won the straw-weight championship at UFC 185 after putting on a stand up clinic against Carla Esparza and defeating her by knockout in the second round. She is a native of Poland and made her MMA debut in 2012 after having over 60 muay thai matches. Jedrzejczyk debuted for the UFC in December where she earned a decision victory over Claudia Gadelha.
Jessica Penne (12-2) is a true veteran of MMA. She made her professional debut in 2006 and has fought for Bellator MMA and Invicta FC. She was a member of the Ultimate Fighter and got all the way to the semifinals before losing to Carla Esparza. In her UFC debut, Penne defeated Randa Markos via a split decision in a back and forth affair. Penne was scheduled to take on Julianna Pena on May 30 at a UFC Fight Night in Brazil but now has the opportunity of a lifetime on June 20th.
UFC Fight Night in Berlin was originally scheduled to have a light heavyweight matchup between Alexander Gustafsson and Glover Teixeira as the main event but a back injury has forced Gustafsson off the card. A new opponent has not been named for Teixeira as of this publishing.
UFC Fight Night will be held on June 20th at the O2 World Arena in Berlin, Germany
