Update: Jon Jones Now in Police Custody

After a whirlwind 24 hours, UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is now in police custody. A warrant for his arrest was issued on Monday afternoon by the Albuquerque Police Department and he was officially booked at 7:11 p.m. local time. His bail was set at $2,500.

According to reports Jones allegedly ran a red light and stuck a vehicle being driven by a pregnant woman. In the accident the woman suffered a broken arm. Jones was reportedly seen fleeing the scene on foot. Because the woman suffered an injury and Jones fled the scene the charges were bumped from a misdemeanor to a felony. Jones was driving a rented SUV and when police conducted a search of the vehicle there was marijuana and marijuana paraphernalia found inside of it.

Police had originally tried to contact Jones regarding the accident on Sunday but could not come in contact with him. They then tried to contact his lawyer but he was unresponsive to police requests. Jones waiting until a warrant was issued to turn himself in only leads to the speculation as to what he was doing in these past 24 hours and why he was unresponsive to police inquiries.

Jones is set to defend his light heavyweight title against Anthony “Rumble” Johnson at UFC 187 on May 23 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The UFC has not releases a statement since Sunday where they basically said they were waiting for more information to come in. As of this writing Jones has not been pulled from his UFC 187 bout.
