Luke Rockhold Slays the Dragon: UFC on Fox Results

In the weeks leading up Saturday night’s UFC on Fox card it was a four-man race to be next in line for a shot at the UFC’s middleweight champion. Lyoto Machida, Luke Rockhold, Jacare Souza, and Yoel Romero all hoped to come away with an impressive win on April 18th. Then about a week and a half before the scheduled event Romero had to pull out of his fight with Jacare due to an injury. It had now become a three man race to the middleweight title and now the dust as settled it is now a two-man race. Jacare Souza and Luke Rockhold did all they could to cemente their place as the next number one contender.

Jacare easily submitted Chris Camozzi in their first round battle. Camozzi took the fight on short notice but even if he had a full training camp you would be hard press to try to imagine a different outcome to this fight. The win was Jacare’s fifth in a row and he is undefeated in the UFC since joining the organization after Strikeforce was bought out.

In the night’s main event Luke Rockhold surprised many with this dominate win over former champion Lyoto Machida. Rockhold used his sheer size and strength to bully Machida for two rounds and won his bout via a rear naked choke. The win was Rockhold’s fourth in a row and he has bounced back very nicely after suffering a head kick knockout loss to Vitor Belfort in his UFC debut.

Also on the card two new stars emerged as the young Max Holloway took care of business against the tough veteran Cub Swanson with a submission and the even younger Paige VanZant defeated Felice Herrig in a one-sided bout in the brand new women’s straw-weight division.
