A women’s bantamweight bout has been booked for the upcoming UFC Fight Night card scheduled to take place in Las Vegas on May 29. Number 6th ranked Sara McMann will square off against number 7th ranked Jessica Eye. The fight was announced during Wednesday’s edition of “UFC Tonight”.
Though both women are currently ranked in the top 10, they are both coming off of consecutive losses. Eye (11-4) suffered losses at the hands of Miesha Tate and Juliana Pena. Eye has only one win in the UFC, she did have a win turned over due to a post-fight drug test failure.
McMann (8-3) is a former title challenger and is coming off a submission loss to Amanda Nunes. McMann’s Olympic background has given her the pedigree to be considered an elite fighter but is only 2-3 inside the octagon.
A win for either woman would be a step in the right direction and with the division seeing two title changes in less than a year it seems that the door is open for every fighter.
