Long Time MMA Announcer Set to Join WWE

Long time MMA, boxing, and kickboxing announcer Mauro Ranallo will become part of the WWE broadcast team in 2016. The WWE made the announcement on their official website early Monday morning. Ranallo currently serves the play-by-play announcer for Championship Boxing on the Showtime network. He is most known by MMA fans for his years calling the action for the Japanese promotion PRIDE.

Soon after PRIDE was folded Ranallo joined the broadcast team for Strikeforce and stayed with the company until it was bought out by Zuffa.

Along with his duties on Championship Boxing, Ranallo works on the GLORY Kickboxing on Spike. Ranallo does have experience calling professional wrestling  as he is also the main commentator for New Japan Pro Wrestling that airs on AXS TV.

“Joining WWE has always been a lifelong dream of mine,” said Ranallo. “I am thrilled to add my voice to the SmackDown broadcasts as the show moves to its new home on USA Network.”

WWE’s Smackdown will move from the SyFy network to the USA Network starting on January 7, 2016.
