It seems not a week goes by where news breaks about a fighter being injured and forcing the UFC to change its plans. This week it is welterweight Thiago Alves who is forced to pull out of a fight due to an injury. Reports are coming out that Alves has suffered a broken rib and that will keep him out of his bout against Benson Henderson on November 28 in South Korea.
Alves (21-10) has been trying to get back to the level he was at in 2009 when he challenged for the welterweight title. He was sidelined for two years with a knee injury He returned to active competition in 2014 and in that time he as gone 2-1 with the one loss coming to Carlos Condit.
The UFC is already actively searching for a new opponent for Henderson and pulling him from the card in not an option at this point. Earlier this week the card suffered a major loss when Mirko Cro Cop retired/was suspended from the card and the night’s co-main event was lost. Henderson is of Korean decent and is a major draw for the company.
UFC Fight Night 79 will take place at Olympic Gymnastics Arena in Seoul, South Korea and be seen exclusively on the UFC Fight Pass.
