On Thursday the ONE Championship 32 main event for the welterweight title was on the edge of being cancelled due to challenger Luis Santos coming in two pounds over the weight limit. The fight was reduced to a non-title affair but champion Ben Askren had only one demand and that was Santos weigh in at 190-pounds on Friday before the actual event.
Well the time came and went and Santos failed to meet Askren’s demands and the fight has been officially cancelled. Not only that but Santos may have seen his last day in the ONE Championship organization.
ONE Championship CEO Victor Cui went to Twitter to show his frustration with Santos:
The bout between Askren and Santos was to be a rematch from their April bout that ended in controversy. Santos suffered an eye poke from Askren and could not continue the bout. Confusion from the referee and cage side officials made the ending of the bout quite bizarre. Askren had to wait seven months for the rematch and now there is no telling how longer he will have to wait to get another bout made.
The ONE Championship card will go on with an eight-fight event and will now be headlined by a flyweight bout between Dejdamrong Sor Amnuaysirichoke and Yago Bryan Farias de Morais.
