Singapore based MMA promotion ONE Championship is in danger of losing its scheduled main event for tomorrow’s fight card. ONE Championship 32 is supposed to have a welterweight championship bout as the headliner but challenger Luis Santos came in at 172-pounds, two pounds over the official welterweight limit at Thursday’s official weigh-ins.
Santos is scheduled to meet champion Ben Askren in a rematch from their bout earlier this year. Their first bout ended in controversy as it was stopped because Santos suffered an eye poke by Askren and could not continue the bout.
After the weigh-ins champion Ben Askren took to his Twitter account to let his feelings about Santos and the situation be known:
Askern is demanding that Santos weighs in at 190-pounds tomorrow or the entire fight is off, not just his title opportunity. Officials for ONE Championship have not commented on Askern’s demands and insist that the bout is “still under negotiation.”
