UFC heavyweight Stipe Miocic has been forced out of his bout with Ben Rothwell due to an undisclosed injury. Their bout was scheduled for next week’s UFC Fight Night card in Dublin, Ireland.
According to reports Miocic’s injury is not serious and the fighter should be able to compete at least once before the year is over. Rothwell is now left without an opponent and with such short notice and a thin heavyweight division it looks like he may be pulled from the card completely.
Miocic (13-2) last fought in May when he defeated Mark Hunt via a TKO. Prior to the bout he lost a hard fought battle to former heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos. He is currently ranked number 3 in the official UFC rankings.
Rothwell (35-9) is currently riding a three fight win streak and a win over Miocic would have put him right up to the front of the line for a shot at the UFC’s heavyweight championship. For now he will have to wait and see if the UFC can find him another opponent or reschedule the fight with Miocic.
