Eddie Alvarez to Face Anthony Pettis

According to Eddie Alvarez he has a date set with former UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis. Alvarez took  to his Twitter account to announce that a bout between he and Pettis will take place in January when the company makes its return to Boston. As of this writing the UFC has made no official announcement regarding this bout.

Alvarez (26-4) made his UFC debut in 2014 after a long run with Bellator MMA. Alvarez’ time with Bellator ended badly due to a contract dispute that kept the fighter out of action for over a year. While in the UFC Alvarez has compiled a 1-1 record. After losing his debut against Donald Cerrone, he would go on to defeat Gilbert Melendez in a tough battle. After the bout it was announced that Melendez failed his post fight drug test.

In Pettis (18-3), Alvarez will find a fighter who will be looking to make a statement. Pettis is coming off a bout in which he not only lost his UFC lightweight championship but he was also made to look like a shell of himself. Rafael Dos Anjos was dominant in his win and it took many in the MMA community by surprise.

The UFC card in Boston is more than likely going to be held as a Fight Night. The expected date is January 17 and will be headlined by a bantamweight championship bout between TJ Dillashaw and Dominick Cruz.
