Joanna Jedrzejczyk vs. Valerie Letourneau Added to UFC 193

Champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk will look to defend her title for a third time. Her latest challenger will be Valerie Letourneau and the bout will serve as the co-main event for UFC 193. The night’s headliner will be a women’s bantamweight title bout between Ronda Rousey and Holly Holm. It was originally believed that Claudia Gadelha would challenge for the title but a reported injury lead the UFC to give the shot to Letourneau.

Jedrzejczyk (10-0) has put on two dominant performances where she displayed her superior stand up skills. She claimed the straw-weight title by defeating then champion Carla Esparza with a second round TKO. She would then go on to defend her title against Jessica Penne in a very similar fashion. Penne should a ton of heart by not giving up but Jedrzejczyk’s stand up was just too much to handle and their bout was stopped in the third round.

Letourneau (8-3) is fresh off a unanimous decision win over Maryna Moroz just a few weeks ago. Moroz was undefeated coming into the bout and was thought of to be right behind Gadelha on the contender’s list. The win over Moroz and the supposed injury to Gadelha put Letourneau in prime position to challenge for the title. Though she is 3-0 in the UFC and on a four fight win streak, Letourneau’s last loss was to Gadelha.

UFC 193 will take place on November 15 at the Etihad Stadium in Melbourne, Australia.
