A women’s straw-weight title bout is being targeted to serve as the co-main event for UFC 195. Champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk will defend her title against Claudia Gadelha in what will be a rematch of their 2014 fight. UFC 195 will be headlined by a championship bout between Ronda Rousey and Holly Holm.
The UFC is hopeful this bout can take place at UFC 195 but Dana White admitted that it will all depend on how Gadelha heals from a recent hand injury that required surgery.
The two fighters first met in 2014 during the TUF 20 Finale. Though both women did not take part in that season’s straw-weight tournament, they were signed to the division and had one of the night’s best fights. Jedrzejczyk (10-0) would go on to win the bout via a unanimous decision and would soon capture the UFC’s straw-weight championship.
Since the loss, Gadelha (13-1) defeated Jessica Aguilar via a unanimous decision to earn herself the number one contender’s spot.
UFC 195 is set to take place on January 2, 2016 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
