A Pair of Former Title Contenders Set to Met at UFC 192

Former flyweight title challengers Joseph Benavidez and Ali Bagautinov are set to square off at UFC 192. The fight was announced on Monday.

Benavidez (22-4) is considered by many as the best flyweight not named Demetrious Johnson. The Alpha Male standout has lost twice to Johnson with the most recent set back coming back in December of 2014. Since the loss Benavidez has bounced back rather nicely with three consecutive wins over Tim Elliot, Dustin Ortiz, and John Moraga. With a win over former title challenger Bagautinov, the UFC will be forced to look at Benavidez as the division’s number one contender.

Bagautinov (13-3) is coming off a year-long suspension for failing a post fight drug test. The failed test came after his unanimous decision loss to Demetrious Johnson in June of 2014. Prior to his loss to Johnson, Bagautinov had rattled off 11-wins in a row. Though he is coming off suspension and been out of action for over a year a win over Benavidez would put the spotlight back on Baguatinov in a shallow flyweight division.

UFC 192 takes place October 3 at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas and will be headlined by a light heavyweight title bout between Daniel Cormier and Alexander Gustafsson.
