UFC lightweight champion Rafael Dos Anjos will look to make his first title defense a successful as he is scheduled to take on Donald Cerrone in the main event of the UFC’s next Fox card. The event is slated to be held on December 19 from the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida.
Dos Anjos (24-7) claimed the lightweight championship from Anthony Pettis in March with a one-sided unanimous decision win. The win capped off an impressive run of victories for Dos Anjos that started with a TKO win over former champion Benson Henderson and then with a lopsided win over Nate Diaz. Remarkably, Dos Anjos has been in the UFC since 2008 and has compiled a 13-5 record. His last loss came via a unanimous decision to Khabib Nurmagomedov in April of 2014.
Cerrone (28-6) has long been one of the UFC’s most popular fighters and has prided himself on being the hardest working fighter in the company. He has often taken fights on short notice and requested quick turnarounds as to remain as active as possible. He is currently riding an eight-fight win streak with his most recent win coming over John Makdessi at UFC 187. Cerrone’s last loss came at the hands of Dos Anjos. The original bout took place in 2013 and Cerrone would go on to lose the bout via a unanimous decision. “Cowboy” will now look to avenge the loss and then some by taking the lightweight championship from Dos Anjos.
UFC on Fox is scheduled to take place on December 19 live from the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida.
