Arlovski vs. Mir Targeted for UFC 191

A heavyweight bout between two former world champions is in the works. According to a report on “UFC Tonight” Andrei Arlovski  versus Frank Mir is being targeted for UFC 191 in September. As of this writing no official bout agreement has been signed by either party.

Mir (18-9) has found new life yet again in his career. After suffering four consecutive losses the former champion has bounced back with two impressive knockout victories first over Antonio Silva and then most recently over Todd Duffee.

Arlovski (24-10) rejoined the UFC in June of 2014 and since his return he has gone 3-0 with two knockout victories. Arlovski has also found a new life upon his UFC return. After suffering four losses in a row while under the Affliction and Strikeforce bannerd, many in the MMA community were calling for him to hang up the gloves. Since the four fight losing streak he has gone 9-1-1 with the only loss coming to former light heavyweight title contender Anthony “Rumble” Johnson.

In a heavyweight division that is hurting for up and coming young talent, it would not be far-fetched to believe that a win for either fighter would put them on the short list title contenders.

UFC 191 takes place on September 5 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and is slated to be headlined by a flyweight championship bout between Demetrious Johnson and John Dodson.
