Conor McGregor and Urijah Faber to Coach New Season of TUF

Welcome to the McGregor era. Less than 24-hours after winning the UFC interim featherweight championship it was announced that Conor McGregor will coach the upcoming season of the Ultimate Fighter opposite team Alpha Male captain Urijah Faber. The season is set to premiere on September 9 and will feature a Team USA vs. Team Europe format.

If you are expecting a McGregor/Faber showdown that will not happen as both men will not face off at the conclusion of the season. McGregor is still slated to face Jose Aldo to unify the featherweight title and this may be a tactic to keep the hugely popular fighter in the public’s eye until a date with Aldo is set.

McGregor is coming off a second round TKO victory over team Alpha Male standout Chad Mendes at UFC 189. Now for this season at least, McGregor will continue his rivalry with the fight team. The chosing of Faber as opposing coach may be due to a strange encounter between he and McGregor that was caught on video. The two men ran into each other in a hall way and what seemed like a playful banter quickly turned into a bit of a stare down. We shall find out during this season whether or not the altercation will lead to a full-blown rivalry between the two.
