Jon Jones Wanted for Questioning in Hit and Run Incident

UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is wanted for questioning in his involvement in a hit and run accident in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Reports had surfaced online on Sunday afternoon that Jones was involved in some sort of incident and that he was pulled from his UFC 187 bout on May 23rd against Anthony “Rumble” Johnson.

As reports came in it was confirmed by the Albuquerque Police Department that Jones is wanted for questioning,”Yes, he is the suspect and we’re hoping that he will contact us to give us his side of the story,” said Albuquerque PD spokesperson to MMA Fighting.

The Albuquerque PD stated in a press release that the person involved in the accident was a pregnant women in her twenties. She was taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries. The release also stated that the police department tried to contact Jones at his house to no success and even reached out to his lawyer in hopes of getting in touch with the fighter but they have yet to hear back.

Jones has been no stranger to legal issue in these past few years. In 2012 he was arrested for a DWI incident and also tested positive for cocaine during a “out-of-competition” drug test back in December. As for his bout at UFC 187 there have been no reports of the UFC pulling him from the card. The UFC is obviously waiting for more information but the longer Jones alludes police questioning the worse he looks. The company did release a state regarding the issue with Jones and Albuquerque Police:

“We are aware that the Albuquerque Police Department is interested in speaking to Jon Jones regarding his possible involvement in a motor vehicle accident. We are in the process of gathering facts and will reserve further comment until more information is available.”
